Hello World
Hey all, Stefan here. It's the Hello World to open up this blog series.
If you know me personally, you know that my hobby is to tinker my way through linux and setup my homelab server. In this blog series, I will share guides that I use for my setup, and perhaps also share my perspectives on scientific stuffs as well.
To start, I will be quickly introduce my computers that I use daily to accomplish my research work, as well as my hobby.
My tech setup
These are my three computers that I use at the moment:
-
Dell Precision 7000 SFF
This is my primary machine, located in my lab office. It is running Arch Linux KDE Plasma at the moment. It is equipped with Intel i7 12000 + 64GB RAM, and did a lot of heavylifting for my research work. -
Macbook Pro M4
I love my Mac for it's portability, power, and long battery life. It enables me to take my work practially anywhere. -
UGreen DXP4800
This is my 4 bay NAS, running TrueNAS. It is equipped with Intel N100, 8GB RAM, and 4 x 14TB WD Ultrastar DataCenter HDD. Perhaps the storage size is a bit overkill, and I barely used 2% of it's storage. But overall I am very proud to get this setup up and running.
What's next?
In the next blog post, I will be going through in more details on how I setup my homelab NAS system, and how I use it to run Nextcloud and Immich. I will also post headlines of news that I read every month! Stay tuned and enjoy!
